Me. Rocket Yoga & I
My first introduction to yoga was at thirteen, which from that age fuelled a desire to find, maybe unconsciously, a deeper connection to my body.
Fast forward a decade and I had lost that connection, I'd found anxiety and a penchant for hedonism.
Fast forward another 5 years (less booze, more sleep!) and I discovered Larry Schultz’ Rocket Yoga system, helping me realise how vital the 8-limbed yoga practice was to my life, leading me further down a path of movement and self-inquiry. Because Rocket places a heavy emphasis on strength-building poses, I started to get strong, which made me feel safe in my body and, what's more, proud to be in it! Yoga encourages us to practice Asana and get strong so that we can sit still in meditation for longer.
Through the stillness of yoga, we work to heal both the body and mind, peeling away the layers, allowing us to experience our own nature. From there we learn to mindfully question ourselves, our choices and our reactions to the world around us.
My Rocket yoga is the search for a flow state of deep moving meditation, using the three pillars of the Practice: Ujjayi breath (victorious breath), the bandhas (energy locks), and drsti (gaze) to find that moving state of bliss. Higher consciousness.
Its a playful energetic sequence that gets you away from your thoughts and into your breath, helping to build patience, resilience and self-knowledge in your life off the mat.
My teaching is strongly focused around deep, long & nourishing breaths and about how the poses feel in the body. Always searching for sensation!
One positive thing that came from my party days was my love for electronic music and little did I know how much this would effect my teaching further down the line…
Coming from a music inspired Rocket community, my classes are based around the beat, there as a metronome for your breath throughout, reminding you to BREATHE when the breath can so easily get lost!
So if you are an old raver or you've still got it in you, come replace your dance floor with your yoga mat and seek the same thrill whilst nourishing yourself from within.
